What the Nutiva brand offers is a high quality organic , reasonably-priced product. These seeds are slightly larger than some of the other brands I've shopped.

These are marketed as "black" seeds - why they market both black and white seeds is unknown to me because I haven't found any advantage of one colored seed over another - which essentially makes this marketing point irrelevant at least to me. I've been making what I call "seed juice" for a couple years now.

I hydrate the seeds for about minutes and then mix in my favorite organic juice. Chia seeds give me a noticeable energy boost in the morning, that lasts all day. I would caution individuals who consume large amounts of caffeine to reduce their intake before consuming Chia seeds, because the energy boost has proven to be synergistic.

In fact, I made the mistake of consuming multiple doses of Chia seeds mixed with juice over the course of a day, and found it almost impossible to go to sleep that night - symptoms similar to a near caffeine overdose I experienced in college. None of the nausea, but all of the insomnia and jitters.

So I recommend using the same reasonable consumption guidelines as with caffeine: moderate consumption and avoid consumption after lunch.
